More than 1.6 million taxpayers have filed their Arizona individual income tax returns. Individuals must file and pay before the individual income tax deadline on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
There are several ways to file your income tax returns with the most popular being e-Filing.
E-file software offers easy step-by-step instructions, assists in detecting costly errors before filing, and can cut the time to receive a refund to as little as two weeks with direct deposit. If you owe, you can still e-file and pay electronically by April 15, 2014 to avoid penalties and interest.
Arizona has partnered with the Free File Alliance which allows qualified taxpayers to choose from multiple free file offerings and directs them to a private company’s website where they can use the free service to prepare and file their returns electronically. Free File brand-name software does the work for you with free tax preparation and free e-filing. To take advantage of this program you must start by using the link http://www.azdor.gov/EServices/Individuals.aspx on the Arizona Department of Revenue website.
For those who do not qualify for the Free Filing, Arizona offers fillable forms, which are online versions of tax forms designed for people who prefer to prepare their own returns. Fillable forms which do some of the math for you are printed with a 2-D barcode which relates to faster processing time and a quicker refund (if eligible).
If you e-File and choose direct deposit, you can expect your refund within two weeks of the date you filed. If you filed a paper return, expect your refund within 12 weeks of the date you filed.
