The Department has created a new enforcement unit that will be identifying taxpayers, promoters and illegal tax schemes involved in abusive tax avoidance transactions. The unit will work closely with IRS and other states to combat the growing problem of abusive tax shelters. Thousands of taxpayer and promoter leads have been received from Internal Revenue Service and this unit will aggressively pursue these leads.
